Club Information

Swords Lawn Tennis Club, formed in 1985, is situated in the grounds of Swords Castle Park, probably the most picturesque venue in Dublin. It is home to 6 recently laid tiger turf & floodlit tennis courts.

Currently both our intermediate ladies and gents are competing in the Dublin Lawn Tennis Council league and we also play in the Fingal League which caters for beginners and non league players. 

We also have a very active junior section and 4 coaches affiliated to Tennis Ireland who work with all the different graded levels of players.

There are ladies nights, mens nights, mixed nights, bbq tournaments, social nights and club championships, there is always something going on in Swords Tennis Club to suit all our members.

Men’s Club Night: Men’s club night takes place every Thursday at 7.30pm from October to May. Sun, rain or snow there’ll always be someone there.  All levels are welcome and this is a great way to meet other members while getting in a bit of practice. We usually organise a mixture of doubles matches but if you prefer singles we will always try and keep everyone happy.

 

Mixed Club Night: Mixed club night runs every Wednesday from April to August starting at 7.30pm. This is social tennis at its most social, so go easy on that serve !

Competitions

Club Championships: Takes place from mid August to late September and cater for all levels of players from novice to the more seasoned players. It includes singles and doubles competitions.

Fingal League: Usually run during April/May. This inter-club competition is especially designed for players who would not usually get the opportunity to compete in the more formal inter-club leagues.

Dublin Lawn Tennis Club Leagues (DLTC): The DLTC run a number of inter-club leagues throughout the year and the Swords men’s team are always represented well in these competitions. We are always looking to give new members a chance of competing in the leagues as this is the best way to improve your game.

They are:

  • Winter League: January through February / March, comprising team(s) of 3 doubles pairings
  • Summer League: May through June, comprising team(s) of 3 singles and 2 doubles pairings
  • Mixed League: July through August, comprising team(s) of 3 mixed doubles pairings
  • Senior League: September through October, comprising team(s) of 3 doubles pairings
  • Floodlight League: October through November, comprising team(s) of 4. Draw each week to decide whether you play singles or doubles.

Ladders

We have a year round Mens Ladder for those of you with a competitive edge. All players are ranked based on the previous year’s singles club championship. Any member not entering the club championships is added in alphabetical order. Any new members joining will be added to the bottom of the ladder.
If you think you should be higher on the ladder then it’s time to make a challenge and set the record straight!

Social Tennis

Women's Club Night: Monday nights from October to April/May.  All levels are catered for and you get an opportunity to play two or three doubles matches each night, each match with a different partner. This club night runs in two terms, each term finishing up with a final night of prize giving to the top scorers over the Monday nights, the winner of the Winter term receives the Lorraine McCormack trophy and the winner of the Spring term receives the Isobel Grogan trophy.

Mixed Club Night: A mid-week night from April to August. We join with the men to play two or three mixed doubles matches each night, again each match with a different partner.

Tournaments

The club also runs a number of mid-week Mixed Doubles Club tournaments throughout the year which are always nicely rounded off afterwards with refreshments and prize-giving in the clubhouse.

These are run continuously throughout the year. 

The Ladies Singles and Doubles Ladders are posted in the Clubhouse for your information.

To make any challenges please obtain members contact information from the clubhouse & make contact with the member.

Junior Tennis

Swords Tennis Club is actively trying to grow its’ Junior’s membership so come along and visit us , we are located behind Swords Castle or use the contact us page to get in touch. The Club provides coaching for kids at all levels along with Junior Tennis activities such as Tournaments, Round Robins and supervised matchplay.

During school holiday periods we host many camps for beginners and intermediate players. These camps cater for all levels/skills. We have camps that focus on a mixture of fun games/match play and we have camps which are more intensive for those who want to improve their skill.Child Protection Policy

Swords Lawn Tennis Club has adopted and implemented the Code of Ethics and Good Practice for Children’s Sport, as set out by Tennis Ireland as an integral part of club policy on children and club membership.

On joining the club or renewing your annual membership, members agree to abide by the Code of Conduct and the club’s Child Protection Policy, set out below. All members and their children should read these and become familiar with them.

Swords Lawn Tennis Club’s Child Protection Officers are Mary Kennedy and Eoin O’Reilly. Contact details are on the Juniors’ noticeboard in the clubhouse and also in the Child Protection Binder, also in the clubhouse. They are available should you have any questions or require any assistance in relation to child protection in the club.
